What datasets will be available?
Around 50 datasets will be made available initially from the Brisbane Datastore, including: bus stop locations, bin collection days, CityCycle locations, parking areas, Eat Safe ratings, and even dog parks

What licence is the data being made available under?
All the datasets being released will be available under the Creative Commons CC BY (attribution) licence. It means people are free to:

  • Share: copy, distribute and transmit the work
  • To make commercial use of the work
  • The work must be attributed in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
    E.g. “Information on this map is derived from Brisbane City Council data provided under Creative Commons – Attribution 3.0 Australia (CC-BY) licence.”

What will be done with the ideas and software that is developed?
The ideas and software developed at Hackfest Brisbane will be showcased on the Brisbane Datastore website.

What format will the data be provided in?
The data will be a mixture of .csv, .xml, .kml and other machine readable formats.

What do you mean by ‘Access & Inclusion’?
The ‘Access & Inclusion’ category is for an app or website that helps make Brisbane a more accessible and inclusive city. To be considered in this category, the app or website should focus on making facilities and services universally accessible to all residents and visitors – be they people with disability, carers, seniors, people with temporary impairments or parents with young children.

Who has partnered with Council to present HackFest?
National ICT Australia (NICTA) and the gov2qld community of practice have partnered with Council top present Brisbane HackFest.
